Summary:
New York Times bestseller Alison Goodman’s eagerly awaited new project: a Regency adventure starring a stylish and intrepid demon-hunter!

London, April 1812. On the eve of eighteen-year-old Lady Helen Wrexhall’s presentation to the queen, one of her family’s housemaids disappears-and Helen is drawn into the shadows of Regency London. There, she meets Lord Carlston, one of the few who can stop the perpetrators: a cabal of demons infiltrating every level of society. Dare she ask for his help, when his reputation is almost as black as his lingering eyes? And will her intelligence and headstrong curiosity wind up leading them into a death trap?
My Take:

Honestly? I as very impressed by the book. The Dark Days Club is set in the 1800s, which Alison claims was the pinnacle of Regency. Honestly? I was very impressed by the book. The amount of extensive research she had done for the book showed hard work and dedication. Plus, I love all things Regency ALSO. I’m a sucker for Victorian Era mannerisms, etiquette, fashion and style and hot damn was there an abundance of that. Everything was described so beautifully, it was though I myself was sitting in a chaise and knitting while wearing bloody ball gowns and looking fly af.

The one thing I loved about this was that most Regency novels tend to mistake ‘independent, carefree-ness’ for flat out rude bitchiness. This novel had none of that. Helen was courteous yet witty. And her independence is shown in the way her mind works- Alison used the cliched ‘cares for the maids and lower class’ but in a sense that was appropriate for the time period in which the novel was set. And there isn’t much of a romance despite what the blurb states. There are sweet courting scenes, but that’s pretty much it.

Another thing that I loved? The gorgeous scenery depiction. It was very well done; I might as well have been trilling about the streets of Victorian England.

The only problem I had with the book was that it was too damn slow. I started to gain interest only when half of the book was done with. I would have liked for more interesting things to happen earlier in the book, so I would be really glad if Alison worked on that!
